Reaching out to people-near and far-in acts of service and witness is core to who we are at Grace Church. In other words, missions is in our DNA.
We reach out beyond ourselves through a variety of avenues:
Through our denominational connection. Our Conference and District apportionments for the work of The United Methodist Church include: - the United Methodist Committee on Relief-first responders to national and international disasters like hurricanes, tsunamis, tornados, famine, etc., as well as fighting to improve conditions in refugee camps, AIDs, malaria, and other epidemic diseases.
- the General Board of Global Ministries-providing full-time missionaries around the world as well as short-term mission opportunities in the United States and abroad.
- Partnerships with the Katanga Conference in Central Africa, the Oriental Conference in Mexico, the Volga District in Russia, and emerging church opportunities in southeast Asia
Through mission efforts developed in whole or in part by Grace Church members, including- The Deborah House in Romania-a home for girls and young women who have been abandoned or abused, giving them a safe place of love, healing, acceptance and hope.Introduced to Grace Church by Jeff and Deb Normand, we support them financially and with trips by Grace members to engage one-on-one with the girls.Jeff also donated his professional architectural expertise in the design and construction of their home.
- Le Cayes, Haiti area missions through Missions International of America-started and sustained by the vision and efforts of Drs. Jay and Jan Nielson since 2001, their work includes establishing and maintaining the Brad Reddick School (named in memory of a faithful Grace Church member), providing medical and dental services, feeding programs, developing wells for fresh water, delivering clothing, school supplies, medicines and other much needed materials, and building a self-sustaining micro-economy to enable people to become independent and raise their standard of living.
Through direct involvement and support with local missions: - Perrysburg Christians United-an ecumenical food bank helping the hungry and those in needful situations
- YMCA-support for Christian Emphasis Director staffing to provide Christ-centered programming at the "Y"
- Friendly Center-North Toledo agency committed to neighborhood revitalization and personal development
- Toledo Gospel Rescue Mission-Men's and Women's Shelter in downtown Toledo
- Cherry Street Mission-homeless shelter and addiction rehabilitation services in downtown Toledo
- Sparrows Nest-shelter for homeless and battered women and children
- Campus Crusade for Christ-support for staff position at Ohio State University campus in Columbus
You can be involved! - Every year there are opportunities for youth and adults to go on short-term mission trips
- Give of your time and skills to our local missions opportunities
- Gather and/or sort donations for Haiti missions and other efforts
- Make financial contributions-you would be surprised how far a dollar will go in other parts of the world, and how much money is required just to get your dollar there
- And especially in prayer-prayer is the essential ingredient for every missions opportunity.Pray regularly and specifically for those whose lives are touched by these expressions of compassion, care and witness of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
